Jo was born to Sue Roskosky and Michael Madowsky in Union Beach, NJ on December 1, 1930. She was raised in Freehold, New Jersey and moved to Union City in 1946 where she was an active member of the community. She worked 28 years for Standard Brands and then dedicated fifteen years to Hills Brothers Coffee in Edgewater where she was an essential and reliable fixture in her workplace. She retired to spend time with friends, family, and her furry companions, including her dog, Puffy, and her cat, Marley.
Jo was known to give selflessly without looking for anything in return. As a lover of pets, she volunteered for Animals Need You in Hawthorne, New Jersey, for many years. Jo not only dedicated her time, but she opened her home to foster animals and consistently helped to raise funds for the organization. Jo also donated her time assisting seniors in her community. She was always helping others, whether it be by driving them to the grocery store, giving advice, or just lending a hand. She saw the good in people, and she cared for everyone regardless of who they were and what they could do for her in return.
Jo is remembered for many things, her kindness, her strong will, and her famous cheesecakes. She was a fighter and a warrior even in her last days. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Mary Golom and Anita Poletti. She is survived by her brother, Albert Gabumowicz, her son, John Marshall, two nieces, five nephews, three great nieces, one great nephew, and many beloved friends that she considered her family.
