He graduated from Bullard High School in 1940 and attended North Texas Agricultural College before entering the Army during World War II. Wilbur served with the 45th Infantry in France and Germany. He was wounded and was a prisoner of Germans for three months. After being discharged from the Army, Wilbur graduated from Texas A&M in 1947. He served as a county agricultural agent in Bell, Lampasas and Coryell counties for ten years. He then worked twenty-eight years as a right-of-way and claims agent for Mobil Oil Corporation, retiring in 1984.
He was preceded in death by Sarah Nash Tomlin, his wife of 62 years; parents; stepmother, Lillie Cook Tomlin; sisters, Vida Browning, Blanche Wester, Zada Cragin and Easter Minto; brothers, Clarence, Othal and Dillard Tomlin; stepsisters, Era Cook, Vera Self, Gertie Beasley, Gladys Elliott and Norene Shafer; stepbrothers, Raymond Cook and Dois Cook.
He is survived by daughters, Dana Welch and Donna Tomlin; son-in-law, Joe Welch; granddaughter, Kelly Tomlin Christoffersen and her husband Jon Christoffersen; nieces and nephews.
Wilbur was a member of Colonial Hills Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Ex-Prisoner of War, Bullard Masonic Lodge No. 785, the 45th Infantry Division Association, and the Disciples Sunday School Class at Colonial Hills Baptist Church.

There will be a visitation from 3 to 5 P.M., on Sunday, May 3, 2015, at Lloyd James Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at Lloyd James on Monday, May 4, 2015, at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Robert Carter officiating. Burial is in Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery.
