Sharon was raised in Tyler and graduated from Robert E. Lee and Tyler Jr. College. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Stephen F. Austin in English/Speech and her Master’s Degree from University of Texas-Tyler in Education. Sharon taught English and Literature at Big Sandy High School. As a teacher, she opened doors to her students teaching them that nothing was impossible. She cared so much about all her students preparing them for the future. She retired in 2003 after 35 years of teaching. She enjoyed her time at home working with her flowers, spending time with her husband, Roger, her daughters and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Roger Pace; daughters, Jennifer Pace and Calvin Gardiner, Stamps, Arkansas; Candy Crippen and husband, Jonathan, Hawkins; Jenny Parker and husband, Chris, Hawkins; Joanna Sprouse and husband, Jim, Fort Worth and Levida Boykin and husband, Greg, Dalhart. She is also survived by her sister Peggy Gidden, Big Sandy; her eight grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; special friends who looked to Sharon as a mother: Lisa Jones, Houston, Monica Cervantes and Laura Ortiz of Tyler; numerous other friends and former students. Sharon was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and friend.
Sharon’s passion was God, family, church and friends. She was a member of First Baptist Church Hawkins and always enjoyed Southern Gospel music and loved her singing friends of 4th Sunday Singing at the church.
When you looked at Sharon you saw Jesus. She knew God was in control and she trusted and had great faith. She was a prayer warrior and a great Christian. She loved Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Sharon let her light shine all the time.
Services will be Sunday, January 31, 2016 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church Hawkins. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:30 prior to the service in the auditorium. Pastors Sam Deville, Zachary Tunnell and Seth Johnston will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Joe Paul McDougald, Mike Simmons, Steven Myers, Calvin Turner, Don Whisenhaut and Mick Medlin.
Interment is following the service at Liberty Cemetery.
