After graduating he went to Dallas and then was drafted to serve in Vietnam for one year. He finished his service at Fort Hood in 1965. He went to work May of 1968 for the Tyler Fire Department and retired Captain after 33 years of service.
He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing. Neil and Kim spent the last 29 years enjoying chasing black bass and bowhunting whitetail deer. Neil lost his battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
He is survived by his wife, Kim Kennemer; daughters, Carrie Kelly (Phillip Noah), Brandi Warren (Danny) and Amber Grisham (Robert); brother-in-law, Rex Shirley; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Neil was preceded in death by his father, Luke Kennemer; mother, Arlene Kennemer; brother, Max Kennemer, and sister, Karen Shirley.
A visitation for Neil will be held Monday, June 3, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Lloyd James Funeral Home, 1011 E 1st Street, Tyler, Texas 75701. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Lloyd James Funeral Home. Burial following the service will be at Bascom Cemetery, FM 848, Tyler, Texas. Officiating the service will be Danny Bristow.
Pallbearers are Tim Kennemer, W. Neil Kennemer, Kelly Shirley, David Huffman, Trey Huffman and Robert Grisham. Honorary pallbearers Tyler Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
