Funeral services for Robert Michael Beck, 65, of Bullard are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Lloyd James Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Sherman Mayfield officiating. Burial is in Williams Cemetery under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.
Mike passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2015 in Tyler.
He was born on June 18, 1950 in Beaumont to Emmitt and Helen Youngblood Beck. He was a longtime resident of Smith County and was a truck driver.
Mike proudly served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1969-1970 in the 11th Armored Calvary “Blackhorse Regiment”. He received the Purple Heart Award. Mike said he went through hell with kerosene panties and would not have made it back to U.S. soil except for the fact that God had other plans. Those plans included having two amazing sons who he was so proud of.
Mike started his career working at Trane in Tyler. Then he rode in his father-in-law’s big truck and became a truck driver. He logged millions of miles driving across the country driving for Stemco, Southland, Tyler Pipe and Brookshires.
He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He also loved riding his motorcycle with his best friend, Gary Wright, playing dominoes, especially with Nanny and PaPaw. Mike was loved by all who knew him and was the life of every party.
He is survived by the mother of their children and life partner, Pat Beck, of Tyler; sons, Mike H. Beck and wife Becky, of The Colony and Mark S. Beck and wife Lindsey, of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Caed, Mason, Hayden and Mayzee; brother Danny Beck; sisters, Gail Malone and Donna King; mother, Helen Rice; cousin and best buddy, Gary Wright; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Emmitt Beck; brother, Rick Beck; sister, Paulette Dushuanack; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, P.H. and Ann Gilbreath.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, October 30, 2015, at Lloyd James Funeral Home.
