Maureen Stowell Decker, age 94, of Tyler, passed away in the mid-evening hours of Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Meadowlake Nursing Home with her loving family at her side. Maureen was born on June 6, 1919 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Harry L. and Jessie Mae Brooks Stowell; they preceded her in death. While stationed at Willow Run Bomber Plant, outside of Detroit, Michigan, Maureen met the love of her life and best friend, Charles F. “Deck” Decker. They were married during World War II and eventually he brought her home to East Texas. Deck preceded her in death in 1999 after 55 years of marriage.
Maureen was the perfect homemaker. She took her duties as a wife and mother and did them with the most love and compassion. She understood how to keep the home together and what it took to raise three children. Maureen followed her children around their sporting events and was always their biggest fan. In her free time, Maureen enjoyed a round of golf and truly loved watching the sunset at the lake.
Maureen is survived by three children, David Lane Decker, and wife Terrie, of Whitehouse, C. Alan Decker, and wife Larue, of Tyler, and Sally Decker Porter of Bullard; grandsons, Kyle Decker, Colin Decker, Corey Decker, Sean Decker and wife Lynzey; granddaughter, Amy; and by her great-grandchildren.
Maureen was also preceded in death by one sister, Maxine Godfrey.
A private family graveside was held at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pollard United Methodist Church or to Heart to Heart Hospice.
