What I miss about my mom. She was an understanding ear, a warm hug, a wealth of good old common sense to draw from, she was a safe place to express my views and learn how the world really works. God blessed me with 60 years with my mom for which I will be eternally grateful but the gift she gave me most was that of stickability. Mom and Dad stayed together through the thick and thin and sometimes at a great sacrifice. Mom, I love and miss you, but I take comfort in knowing that you are with the Lord.


My fondest memories are when I was a little girl and G-ma and I watched "Tad and Dixie" together. Her letting me stay up late to play "Frogger" and "Wheel of Fortune" on that ridiculously old computer with her. I loved staying up, playing games with G-ma, and drinking far too much coffee with Saltine crackers. As I got older, the natural distance was there, but G-ma still welcomed me with that amazing smile and loving nature. I'll hold onto the memory of her taking me into the kitchen and walking me through every step of how she made her Chocolate pie. She loved my kids like they were her own and never failed to be there for them no matter what state her health was in, and I'll forever be grateful for God blessing us with such an incredible soul. Fat and Sassy, a phrase I will never forget. When ever asked how she was, she would always say: fat and sassy! Once she lost weight from dementia, she would always say, well I used to say, fat and sassy but I can’t say that anymore and she would laugh, I never tire of that smile and that laugh. I see and hear them still in my loving memories of G-ma.

Our dear Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning 
hours of October 23, 2022 and woke up to her first worship service in 
heaven. She has joined and met two of my children that I have not yet 
seen their faces, Joshua Paul and Mary Kathryn. She has been reunited 
with our dad, Marlin Pike and our brother, her baby son, Paul Pike, along 
many with brothers, sisters and extended family, her mom (Mary Sutton) 
and her Dad (Jack Sutton) and a dear great aunt, our Aunt Callie. Our 
hearts are broken but rejoicing!
My earliest memory of my mom is her holding and comforting me when I 
had bad dreams. She would sing us songs that told stories. She had the 
knack of being very strict and very kind at the same time. She had a 
beautiful smile. She visited my 3rd grade class once and I remember 
looking up at her talking with my teacher and thinking, I have the most 
beautiful mother. Her beauty wasn’t just outside, most was inside. How 
she handled 7 children like us, God only knows. Mom lived an active life 
until dementia took that from her. She is now whole again, living her 
eternal active life. 

I had the pleasure of working with Kathryn for several years at U.S. District Court.  I enjoyed listening to her talk about her life, family and the large family reunions. She especially enjoyed announcing the arrival of a new grand baby. It was obvious that Kathryn dearly loved her family.  She was a good person, friend and co-worker. During your time of grief remember all the good times you shared together.  Keep Kathryn’s memory alive by sharing those wonderful memories  with her grandchildren.   My sincere condolences to the family.


I will forever remember her opening her closet and letting me try on all her jewelry and sewing my costumes for school. Teaching me to play dominos in the barn or playing in our backyard in Tyler. I will always remember her love and the way she protected me. I love you Gma!

Kathryn leaves behind 17 grandchildren: Matthew Davidson, Angie Gibson, James Gifford, Natalie Gifford, Stephen Lee, Toni Lovett, Patricia Melton, Sharon McPeek, Brandon Pike, Chad Pike, Christopher Pike, David Pike, Joshua Pike, Justin Pike, Maegan Pike, Cristy Seachrist, and Sarah Williams. She also had 35 great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren.
Kathryn is survived by 1 sister, Pamela Wells.
