Services for Joyce Skillern Wilson, 90, of Tyler, are scheduled for 3:30pm, Saturday, July 16, 2016 in the chapel of Lloyd James Funeral Home with Chaplain Elwood Stetson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Pinecrest Cemetery in Troup.
Mom went home to be with dad on July 13, 2016.
Mom was born June 19, 1926 in Griffin, Texas to Dewey and Pansy Skillern. She graduated from Summerfield High School at age 16 and went to work for Western Union in Texas, St. Louis, Mo. and New Mexico.
Joyce married the love of her life, Bertram Wilson on December 28, 1946. They moved to Houston where dad finished at the University of Houston, studying in pharmacy. Mom and dad lived in Galena Park where they owned and operated Wilson’s Pharmacy and raised their three children; then moved back home to East Texas.
Joyce went to work at Peoples Bank (Bank of America) in 1969 and retired after 26 years in 1995.
Mom was a faithful member of Glenwood Church of Christ until her health prevented her from attending.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; brother Leo Skillern; sister and brother-in-law Etheleen and Perrywood Matteson; niece Patti Skillern; her father-in-law Avery Wilson and mother-in-law Cecil Wilson; sister and brother-in-law Bennie Ruth and Robert Patterson; and nephew Johnny Skillern.
Survivors include her 3 children: daughter Jan (Terry) Carter, of Whitehouse; son Larry (Delinda) Wilson, of Dallas; son Dwayne (Lori) Wilson, of Whitehouse; six grandchildren: Kimberly (Butch) Carter, of Troup, Cindy Carter, of Austin, Chris Carter, of Fort Worth, Lorean Dillard, Morgan Wilson and Haley Wilson, all of Dallas; four great-grandchildren, Katelyn Carter, Colby Carter, Colton Dillard, and Cameron Dillard; brothers and sisters-in-law, Troy (Betty) Skillern, of Houston, Roy (Marcia) Skillern, of Houston; sisters-in-law, Odessa Wilson, of Houston and Janie Skillern, of Kentucky; best friend Kathy Blake, of Tyler; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the loving caregivers at The Waterton and The Hospice of East Texas for their compassion and tender care of mom the past few years. We would like to thank Dee and Lenora for their extra care and attention to mom’s special needs.
