A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Tyler. Visitation with family will follow the service.
Gerald was born in Big Spring to Odie and Vonceil Morris. He pursued and education which included attending Baylor University, UT Austin and ultimately receiving his PhD in Mathematics from Texas Tech. He was a Professor Emeritus of Mathematics, College of Science and Mathematics at UT Tyler. While there, he also served as Director of Institutional Planning and Analysis and Vice President of Academic Affairs. Gerald was also an army veteran and worked in the Pentagon while serving. He was deacon and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church. One of his favorite hobbies was golfing.
He married his soulmate, Eleanor Potter on November 26, 1959. The enjoyed traveling together and were able to visit every continent in the world. They had an amazing marriage with a strong Christian foundation.
Gerald is survived by his wife Eleanor, his daughter Pamela Ward of Tyler, his son Craig Morris and his wife Leddie of Houston, and his grandson Trey Youngblood of Portland, Oregon. He is also survived by his sister Marg Burrows and her husband Lynn of San Antonio, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father Odie Morris, his mother Vonceil Grimes and his step-father Jay Grimes.
