She was born July 2, 1913 in Lincoln, Nebraska to James O. and Mary E. Freshour. When she was 4 years old (1918) the family moved to a farm near Syracuse, Nebraska. She graduated from the Syracuse High School, attended the Teachers College in Peru, Nebraska. She taught in a rural school near Syracuse, Nebraska.
On March 1, 1939, she married Edgar J. Schmidt in Taberville, Missouri. Later that month, they moved to Idaho and lived in the Idaho Falls area for 8 years. In 1946, they moved to Buhl, Idaho. There their only daughter was born February 1948. In 1951, they moved to Twin Falls. In Buhl and Twin Falls, Mrs. Schmidt worked in the C. C. Anderson stores. In 1961, she and her husband purchased a grocery store on South Washington, Twin Falls. It was called Schmidt’s
Market, which they operated until they retired in 1977. Mr. Schmidt died in 1993.
Mrs. Schmidt was a member of the Twin Falls United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed making handcrafts – knitting, crocheting, tatting, etc. Many of the things she made were given to her family or to the Methodist Bazaar. She was a Campfire Girls Leader for about 6 years.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mareda and Cecil Wright; her grandsons, Kevin Wright and Nathan Wright and great grandchildren; Yasmine,
Tyson, Eleanor, Isaac and 2 nieces and their families in Missouri.
A funeral will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Elaine Steele officiating. A viewing will be held on Monday, February 27, 2017 from 6-8 pm at White Mortuary “Chapel by the Park.” She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Edgar, at Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Endowment Fund of the First United Methodist Church, 360 Shoshone St., Twin Falls, Idaho.
