Sharon was born on July 26, 1947 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. to JD and Dorothy Leola Hamner (née Banks). She married David H. Allen of Tuscaloosa, Ala. on December, 20, 1966.
Sharon accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of ten in 1957 at Carroll's Creek Baptist Church. She was a loving, generous and committed Christian – serving Christ in many ways throughout her life.
Sharon and David were members of Alberta Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher for more than 30 years. Gifted with a servant's heart, Sharon felt her calling to be a nurse from an early age.
Sharon was a proud alumna of Tuscaloosa County High School, Class of 1965. She then began her lifelong journey and commitment to nursing-graduating in 1969 as a registered nurse from the Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing (now part of Samford University). In 1979, Sharon graduated from The University of Alabama Birmingham as a nurse practitioner.
Sharon met the needs and challenges of nursing with an eagerness and enthusiasm she retained all her life. Her remarkable career began as a registered nurse for West End Baptist Hospital in Birmingham. From there, Sharon's work brought her to Tuscaloosa and practice at Bryce Hospital, Hale Memorial Hospital, the offices and practice of Drs. Herrod, Sherwood and Waites, the Primary Care Clinic at the VA hospital and finally, Tuscaloosa Urology until her retirement in 2018.
In addition to her working as a registered nurse and a nurse practitioner, Sharon mentored, guided and supported many young nursing students, always encouraging those wanting to enter the field she had chosen as her life's work.
Sharon's greatest gift in this life ultimately was to her family and friends. She was married for over 51 years to her beloved husband, David. She was the loving "big sister" to Regina and Phillip, the fun, generous and loving Aunt Sharon to her many nieces and nephews and the friend everyone knew they could always depend upon.
The memory of Sharon's joy of life, her laughter and quick wit, her loving, supportive and generous spirit, her caring ways and steadfast faith will be carried always in the hearts of those who love her.
Pallbearers will be Keith Aldridge, K.O. Aldridge, Dax Lewis, Mark Fleenor and Rodger Miller.
