He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Melvina Johnson. Richard is survived by his spouse, Alisa Barr Johnson of Tuscaloosa, AL; daughters, Carol, Camille, and Victoria of Tuscaloosa, AL; son, Patrick.
Richard was born in Pittsburg, PA April 21, 1972. He lived in Johnstown, PA until he and his family moved to Shannon, AL in 1975 where his dad was a mine inspector. Richard graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1990. He attended Montevallo College and Jefferson State Community College before receiving his Bachelor of Science and Masters’ of Science in Health Informatics at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Richard worked in that field at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center and DCH Regional Medical Center. He left that field to learn the car business with his mother-in-law, Verta Barr at Quality Mazda Volkswagen. Richard then began a partnership with Jerry Giles at Superior Autos. Richard then pursued his true passion of loving and taking care of his family.
Richard and Alisa were married June 22, 1996. Richard went through basic training and Officer Candidate School and served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army National Guard until 2001. Richard was a devoted husband and father who loved his family and God passionately. He diligently expressed that his children have the ability to and will change the world. Because of this attitude, he challenged people all around him to love and serve one another.
Pallbearers are Chris Parton, Kenneth Cowart, Ivan Kolb, Matt Wyatt, Ben Padgett, Brandon Parks, and Todd Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Giles, George Wilkes, Terry Wheat, and Matthew Carter, John Fisher, David Allen, John Jessep, Lee Stegall, Mark Hearing, and Mike Hearing.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, March 22, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, 912 31st St E, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35405 with a funeral service to follow and then burial at Memory Hill Gardens, 2200 Skyland Blvd East, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35405.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Ridgecrest Baptist Church.
