Services will be held graveside Friday, December 8th at 11 a.m., at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Johnny Jones officiating, and Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Interment will be at Memory Hill Gardens immediately following the service.
He is preceded in death by his father, Adrian Beatty “Buck” Barton; mother, Lola Cork Barton; brother, A. B. Barton, Jr.; sisters, Mary Dockins, and Charlotte Stackpole.
Survivors include his wife Shirley Adams Barton, daughters Lori Snead (John) and Nancy Terry (Steve), son Russ Barton (Tracy), grandchildren Hannah Costanzo (Ryan), Lesley Davis (Cory), Aimee Stormer (Andrew), John Paul Snead, Adrian Cortes (David), Rachel Langford (Alex), Brett Barton (Amelia), Jackson Barton (Jada), and great grandchildren Chandler and Peyton Davis; Sutton and Smith Costanzo; Scottie and Jack Stormer; Amos, Mabel, and Oliver Cortes; Timothy Langford; and Sawyer and Samuel Barton.
Paul William Barton was born on August 24, 1932 to Buck and Lola Barton in Tuscaloosa County. He graduated from Brookwood High School in 1951. After graduating, he joined the Navy and served aboard a submarine tender in the South Pacific. After being honorably discharged in 1955, he trained to be a machinist. Paul married Shirley Adams of Greensboro on March 15, 1958. Paul was a skilled machinist for Gulf States Paper Corporation and then for Jim Walter Resources. He was a faithful member of Alberta United Methodist Church and then Forest Lake United Methodist Church.
He was a creative problem solver who was prone to fabricate clever devices that made life easier. He was an accomplished vegetable gardener, a love he inherited from his mother. Paul was athletic and loved playing sports, especially golf. His children and grandchildren remember him as fun-loving and energetic. Paul made the world a better place for those around him.
Pallbearers are Ryan Costanzo, Cory Davis, Andrew Stormer, John Paul Snead, David Cortes, Alex Langford, Brett Barton, and Jackson Barton.
Honorary pallbearers are his many golfing partners including Johnny Jones and Bobby Joe James, Hospice of West Alabama, and caregivers Thanual Crawford, Rita Hendrix, Annie Norwood, Vicki Davis, and Elizabeth Butler.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
