Opal Ivey Aycock, age 93, of Tuscaloosa, died Oct. 30, 2010. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Carl wells and Pastor Jerry Lake officiating and Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be form 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Nathaniel Aycock; sisters, Jettie Decker and Eddis Walker; and brothers, Roy Ivey, Ray Ivey, and Cleo Ivey.
Survivors include her nieces, Doris Sanders (Maurice) of Centre and Ann Decker of Memphis, Tenn.; nephews, John Lee Ivey (Rose) of Jasper, Marada Decker (Linda) of Maui, Hawaii, Jimmy Walker of Jasper, Steve Speed (Kristie) of Trussville, Billy Richardson (Creagh) of Birmingham, Stuart Upton of Jasper; and many great-nieces and nephews.
Opal was a member of 1st Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa and attended televised services in her later years. She loved her church family and looked forward to their weekly visits. She was an avid gardener and active community member. After her husband died, she enjoyed traveling with her nieces, visiting Hawaii, New York, and Martha's Vineyard to name a few places. She will be missed by many.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to 1st Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa or Hospice of West Alabama.
