TUSCALOOSA – Kenneth “Kenny” Lee Hill, age 66, died February 12, 2022 at DCH Regional Medical Center as a result of a lengthy illness from lung cancer and complications from pneumonia. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2022. Casual, comfy, laid-back attire (jeans, boots, Alabama apparel) will be appropriate for both services.
Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Lila Hill; sister, Alisha Yaw Fuller; and brothers, Earl Hill and Cecil Hill.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Pamela “Pam” Hill; son Jonathon “Jon” Hill (Ashley); sister, Mary Jane Walters; sisters-in-law, Angie McCown (Richard) and Tami Horden (Randy); and grandchild, Avery Hill.
Kenny attended Tuscaloosa High School where he graduated in 1975. After graduating, he worked doing mechanic and body work repairs on cars. In August 1976, Kenny started a new career at the University of Alabama – Campus Mail. This was truly a job he looked forward to everyday. He loved that everyday delivering mail was never the same. He enjoyed the interaction and communication with professors and faculty at the University of Alabama. He did this for 32 years until his retirement in 2008 on April Fool’s Day (what a joke).
Kenny also loved going fishing in hopes of catching enough fish to bring home to cook and enjoy a good meal, unlike a close family member (Stephen) who throws them back in the water. Now cooking was his real calling. He loved to cook more than anything, and especially to cook for others to make them happy and to bring a smile to their face. There was nothing that he could not or would not attempt to cook, and you could be assured it would be delicious.
Kenny also enjoyed spending time with his family for get-togethers, and especially the holidays. He was always nominated hands down as the head cook, from the turkey, to the dressing, to the sweet potato casserole and more, leaving very little for anyone else to do. He wouldn’t have it any other way. He just loved cooking that much. He was always ready to cook, eat or go on a picnic even with a bucket of KFC chicken. He truly loved homemade cinnamon rolls from Rolls Tuscaloosa, and their delicious pecan pies.
Before and during the early stages of his illness, he enjoyed going on trips with his family to such places as Biloxi, Mississippi, Tupelo, Mississippi, Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and Atlanta, Georgia.
Kenny truly enjoyed spending time with his two dogs (Lexus and Marley) and his grand dogs, Saban, Bama and Champ. They were the loves of his life.
