Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Susan Griffin; daughter, Jessica Griffin Miller (Jeffrey); son Corbyn Griffin (Morgan); sisters, Tana Griffin Brewer (Tom) and Sharon “Shan” Griffin Brumfield; and grandchildren, Caitlyn Griffin, Owen Griffin, Evelyn June Miller, and Brooks Aaron Miller.
John was an IBEW brother since graduating Apprenticeship school in 1985. He worked all across the country on various industrial construction jobs as well as power plants. He made many friends along the way which he kept in touch with on a regular basis when he moved his family to Alabama in 2018; where he built his retirement home on the Black Warrior River at Brush Creek. His closest union brothers are based in Indianapolis, Indiana where he worked out of Local 481. He was born in Bogalusa, Louisiana and went to LSU for Agriculture one year before deciding to go to apprenticeship school to become an Inside Wireman. John loved World Outlaw sprint car racing and NASCAR back in it's heyday. He could name every driver and their car number and went to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to see them race whenever he could. He went to the Inaugural Brickyard 400 and several sprint car races. He loved working with his hands and restoring older cars was his main hobby. He restored a 1963 Corvette, a custom 1973 VW Beetle with a/c for his daughter Jessica, and a 1974 Karmann Ghia for his sister Tana. His next project was to begin after he built his retirement house and was to be a 1957 Chevy with a big block 572 for his wife Susan. John loved to cook on the grill and smoker. He was always available to help his friends and neighbors. He even kept up with his high school friends from Bogalusa and didn't hesitate to call every chance he could. He will be greatly missed by all.
