Born in Memphis, TN, on April 7, 1948, he was the son of Oliver and Elizabeth Anderson. Jim was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity while going to school at The University of the South, Sewanee, TN and graduating in 1970 majoring in forestry. He was a member of Christ Episcopal church. Jim was employed at Gulf States Paper Company (now called Westervelt) for 21 years until he decided to start his own forestry business called Anderson Forest Products and Services. He created and operated a successful family business which employed all three of his sons to one degree or another.
Jim had a passion for the outdoors. In his youth, he spent his free time riding hunters and jumpers in which he excelled, receiving numerous trophies and recognition. His later years consisted of hunting, fishing and “Uncle Wiggly” adventures on the golf cart with his grandkids. Jim’s knowledge and skills of the great outdoors has been passed down through generations and will live on.
He is preceded in death by his son, Michael Allen Anderson, sister, Lucille Anderson and his parents, Oliver Carlisle and Elizabeth Anderson.
Jim is survived by his wife Jan Anderson; sons, Paul Oliver Anderson, James Eric Anderson (Katherine); grandchildren, Ella Katherine Anderson and James Andrew “Andy” Anderson; brother, Bob Anderson (Gloria); sisters Carlisle Hacker and Daphne Herbert (Van); nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Walter Marshall Whitby, Eric Heslop, Dr. Paul Diaz, Al Morrison, Phillip Watkins, Joe Hall, Rod Helms, and Wally Welch.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2022, from 1:00-2:00 pm at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home followed by a Graveside Service at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with The Reverend Paul Pradat, Rector officiating.
