Olivia Gomes Da Rosa, 88, died Tuesday, January 17 in her home in Turlock. The former Olivia Gomes De Escobar was born on September 11, 1934, in Faial, Azores. She was a resident of Turlock for 53 years. She was preceded in death by her daughter Maria Fernanda Da Rosa and husband, the late Louis Da Rosa.
Mrs. Da Rosa is survived by her sister, Sally Pine of Santa Cruz; son Louie Da Rosa of Turlock; grandson Zachary Rosa of Sacramento; one great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, the late Joe Escobar, and her sisters, the late Georgina Silva and Maria Fatima Borchardt.
Olivia immigrated to America in 1959 along with her family. Since coming to America, she worked hard,—taking advantage of the opportunities of this country—and started a dairy business with her husband and son in 1970. After her husband passed in 1990, she continued to run the family business for 26 years. Besides being a successful businesswoman, she was also a devoted housewife, mother, and grandmother. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, traveling across America and playing slots at casinos where she always seemed to win.
Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service is overseeing funeral arrangements. Services are being held privately at the request of the deceased.
