Maria das Neves Costa Barcelos, age 96 of Modesto, California passed away at Vintage Faire Nursing Home, on Saturday June 4, 2022. Maria was born August 4,1925 in Santa Barbara, Terceira, Açores to Rosa Aurora Mendes and José Goncalves da Costa.
Maria is survived by her son José Luis Barcelos (Mandi) of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; her daughter Filomena Barcelos Dias of Modesto; her brother Francisco Costa of Canada and her sister Alice Costa Nunes also of Canada; Maria also leaves behind her five grandchildren, Louie Dias, Alexandra Fogli, Eric Dias, Gary Barcelos and Latisha Stavropoulos, along with her nine great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Dias, Marco Dias, Nicolo Fogli, Natalia Fogli, Sophia Dias, Daniella Dias, Ellee Stavropoulos, Christos Stavropoulos and Sofia Stavropoulos to honor her memory. Maria is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Maria was preceded in death by her spouse Marcelino G. Barcelos; her father José Goncalves da Costa, her mother Rosa Aurora Mendes and her brothers, Belmiro Costa, Gregorio Mendes Lemos and José Costa. She is also preceded in death by her son-in-law Eurico Rocha Dias.
Maria was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Modesto and Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Turlock.
A visitation for Maria will be held Wednesday June 8, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service, 286 West Main, Turlock, CA 95380.
A Recitation of the Rosary followed by Funeral Mass will occur Thursday June 9, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, 2602 South Walnut Road, Turlock, CA 95380.
A Committal Service will follow the Funeral Mass, Thursday, June 9, 2022 at St Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery, 1141 Scenic Drive, Modesto, CA 95350.
Serving as pallbearers are Louie Dias, Alexandra Fogli, Eric Dias, Nicolo Fogli, Marco Fogli and Adelino Martins.
