He leaves behind his wife of almost 55 years, Mary (Vieira) Silva if Denair; daughter Linda (Silva) Peden of Denair; son Danny Silva and daughter-in-law Melanie Silva of Manteca; daughter Darlene (Silva) Ellerd and son-in-law Michael Ellerd of Turlock; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; sister Albertina Mendonca Mendonca of San Leandro; many foster children, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Manuel was born on February 23, 1940 in Praia do Almozarife, Chao Frio, Faial, Açores. He was born to Maria Silvina Da Silva and Antonio Garcia. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Maria Da Silva Garcia and Aldina Rodrigues and brother Antonio Garcia.
Manuel was in the Portuguese Army and served in Guinea, Africa for about 2 and a half years. He immigrated to the United States in 1965 and began his new life by working on dairies until he gained employment at Laura Scudders and ultimately General Foods where he retired early due to injury.
Manuel was a family man. He enjoyed playing music, dancing, raising cattle, camping, fishing and watching his favorite soccer team, Sporting Club of Portugal. His personality, sense of humor and HUGE heart will be missed most of all!!!
A visitation for Manuel will be held from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service, 286 W. Main Street, Turlock, California. Following will be
a Recitation of the Rosary.
A funeral mass will occur at 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 10:00 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, 2602 S. Walnut Road, Turlock, California. Following will be a committal service at Turlock Memorial Park, 575 N. Soderquist Road, Turlock, California.
Serving as pallbearers are Christopher Blake, Kyle Kunz, Brenden Curnow, Grant Silva, Gavin Silva, Brady Peden, Lucas Avila and Preston Avila.
