William "Bill" James Glover, 85, a resident of Olympia, WA since Jan. 1964, died 2 July 2021 at Fieldstone Memory Care, Olympia.
He was born 23 Jan 1936 in St. Johns Hospital, Rapid City, SD to James Halvor and Elma Salina (Sampila) Glover.
He married an EAL stewardess, Scarlett LaRae Krupicka, a native of rural Austin, MN, on 17 Nov 1962 at a country church, Red Oak Grove Lutheran near Corning, MN. They met while both were living in Alexandria, VA.
Mr. Glover graduated from Newell High School, Newell, SD in 1954 and earned his Civil Engineer degree from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 1958.
After graduating, he went to work for the Bureau of Public Roads and worked in CO and SD. He then served as a 1st Lt, Combat Engineer Platoon Leader with the 3rd Infantry Division stationed in Germany from July 1959 to April 1961. He entered the Army 8 Apr 1959 as a 2nd Lt. After leaving active duty he was in the Army Reserves until honorably discharged 1 Jan 1964. He went back to work as a Civil Engineer for the Bureau of Public Roads later called the Federal Highway Administration and retired on 1 Oct 199 4 after 36 years of service. He moved several times while in their employ working in Washington, D.C., Wisconsin, Oregon and the state of Washington.
Mr. Glover enjoyed sports and had Seahawk season tickets for many years. He also enjoyed gardening and his birds and squirrels and reading and watching TV. He traveled to see relatives, including going to Finland and other parts of Europe and to Lake Tahoe. He took one cruise. He was a devoted loving, kind, caring husband and father and grandfather. He belonged to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and was a past member of the American Society of Engineers.
Mr. Glover is survived by his wife, Scarlett Glover; his children and families: James E. and (Nancy) Glover, son and Kaitlyn Glover, granddaughter; Jason S. (Erin) Glover and Griffin Glover, grandson, Olivia Glover and Natalie Glover, granddaughters; Jill L. (Delain) Johnson, daughter, and Ella Johnson, granddaughter, and Luke Johnson, grandson. Brother-in law and sister-in-laws: Jack and Charlotte (McGuire) Krupicka; Shareen (Krupicka) and Donald Carlson, Jr. and Diana (Babb) Glover. Also, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Elma, his brother Ronald D. Glover. Brother-in-laws, Randy and Richard Krupicka and sister-in-laws, Mary Ann and Audrey Krupicka.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday July 13th from 4 to 6pm at Mills & Mills Funeral Home. The funeral service is scheduled for 1:00pm, Wednesday July 14th at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1515 Harrison Ave NW, Olympia, WA 98502; followed by the committal service at Mills & Mills Memorial Park, 5725 Littlerock Rd SW, Tumwater, WA 98512 with Army honors. All are welcome to attend.
