Harold Rogers Watkins, a devoted husband and loving father, peacefully returned to his heavenly home on January 30th, 2024, at the age of 80. Harold was born on July 18, 1943, in Athens, Georgia, to Prince Archie Watkins and Mattie Lou Seay. He was the youngest of five children.
Harold entered the US Army as a young man. Harold served in the Vietnam conflict where he was awarded a Bronze Star; a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; a Vietnam Service Medal (w/1 Silver Star); and a Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. Harold remained in the military until his retiring with an Honorable Discharge. After retiring from the military, Harold worked more that 20 years as a civil service employee at Fort Hood Texas.
Harold was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In Texas, Harold attended the LDS church for many years serving in various leadership roles. Brother Harold Watkins was ordained to the office of High Priest of the Order of Melchizedek Priesthood. He enjoyed Genealogy and being a faithful servant to his calling. Upon moving to Washington, he continued his unwavering dedication to serving at the LDS Church in Lacey.
Harold was well known to all who visited him as a collector of flags. He studied vexillology and maintained a collection of more than two- Hundred state, national and international flags. He enjoyed sharing stories of Military and Political History. Harold’s favorite pass time was watching game shows such as Jeopardy, Chase & Wheel of Fortune, and Western Movies.
A kind man, a loving husband and father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret T. Watkins in 2016. He is survived by his brother, Daniel Watkins; his sister Madelline Luella Watkins; his children Teri M. Buchowski; Vincent R. Watkins; Christopher C. Watkins; Howell B. Watkins; and Jenifer “Regina” Edwards. His stepchildren Timothy L. Cody and Glenn A. Cody and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Harold was a true Patriot! He loved God, Family, and his Country. His legacy of love, faith and patriotism will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched.
