He was the youngest of 4 children. His Mother and Father came to the US from Sweden. Don married Donna May Nelson, the love of his life, on November 3, 1951. The night he met Donna, he said “I am going to marry that girl”.
They moved to Olympia, Washington soon after they were married at the urging of his brother, Harold and his wife, Elenor, who lived in Portland, Oregon. They resided in Olympia for 63 years and moved to Auburn Retirement Home in 2022 to be closer to family.
Don began working for the State of Washington as a computer programmer and eventually computer analyst. He worked for the state for 28 years and retired in 1980 at 57 years old. He was retired longer than he worked. He would play bridge at noon everyday at work.
Don & Donna had 4 children Lynn, Steph, Mark & Cindy.
Don was truly and gentle, calm, loving father & husband.
Don loved bowling, cards, traveling to Vegas and Tucson to visit friends and family to play golf. He also did many family road trips traveling to Oregon and Minnesota to visit family.
He loved boating and especially fishing with his friends and family.
Don was a Sudoku fanatic and he was labeled the Jigsaw Puzzle Master, finishing a 1,000 piece puzzle within a few days.
Don is survived by his 4 children Lynn, Steph (Brad), Mark (Joy) Cindy, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many Nieces and Nephews and their families.
The funeral service celebrating Don & Donna’s life will be held at Mills & Mills Funeral Home and Memorial Park on Friday October 18 from 1 – 4pm (5725 Littlerock Road SW, Tumwater, WA). Service will be held in the Chapel at 1pm followed by a gravesite visit. A lite meal & dessert will follow in the chapel.
