August 9, 1951 – July 9, 2013
Bruce Maxwell Brockmann, age 61, died on July 9, 2013 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA. Bruce was born August 9, 1951 in Vancouver, WA and was one of five children of George and Lillian Brockmann.
Bruce graduated from Hudson’s Bay High School in Vancouver, continued his education at Clark Community College and earned his BA Degree in the first graduating class at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA. Bruce began a successful business career operating multiple 7-Eleven franchises and later expanded into independent convenience store operations, Blimpie’s Restaurants and a variety of other business ventures. Bruce had a true entrepreneurial spirit and loved engaging in enterprise. After retiring from self-employment he began working for Pierce College and eventually the State of Washington where he was employed until his death. Early in his 7-Eleven career, he met the love of his life, Karen Dick. They married and shared 22 years of marriage before her passing in 2003.
Bruce is survived by his daughters Brandyn Brockmann, Brittany Smith (husband Andrew), Kelley Loveless (husband Tracy), and Kasey Magee (husband Larry), and three grandchildren, Cassidy, Anna and Landen, all of Olympia.
In a remarkable coincidence, attributable only to divine intervention, Bruce passed away on the same day (about 12 hours later), as his younger sister Ruth Brockmann of Vancouver, WA. They shared a very special bond and needed each other for their final journey together. Both were surrounded by loving family and friends when they passed. Bruce is also survived by his three remaining siblings, Kathie Brockmann of Vancouver WA, Bob Brockmann (wife Bunny), of Tumwater and John Brockmann (wife Cathy), of Olympia.
Bruce was always fond of William W. Purkey’s quote:
“You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching,
Love like you'll never be hurt,
Sing like there's nobody listening,
And live like it's heaven on earth.”
Bruce will always be remembered for his love of family, his kind and gentle heart, and wonderful spirit. He will be dearly missed.
