William B Carbaugh (Bill) passed away on February 7, 2022 at the young age of 76.
Bill was born September 22, 1945 in San Francisco, CA. In 1953 he moved with his family to North Highlands, CA. He attended Highlands High School and graduated in 1963. He attended college for 2 years.
In 1965, Bill married and had one child, William Bryan Carbaugh II.
Bill enlisted in the Army in January 1966 and attended Warrant Officer Flight Training school in Fort Walters, Texas and Fort Rucker, Alabama. He was sent to Vietnam as a helicopter gunship pilot. After Vietnam he returned to Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia. After his discharge from the Army in 1969, Bill moved to Sacramento, California where he attended the California Highway Patrol Academy in September 1970.
He was assigned to West Los Angeles as a traffic officer and then moved to Indio, California as a helicopter pilot. He promoted to Sargent in January 1983 in Monterey, California and then transferred to Valley Division Air Operations in Auburn, CA, where he stayed until he retired in May of 1998. After retirement with the Highway Patrol, he flew helicopters for Fish and Game in Alaska. He was a member of the Shriners and Free Masons. He later became a US Merchant Marine Officer in May of 2002, in Miami, Florida.
He returned to California, and in 2009, Bill met Michele. They had many grand adventures together, their biggest was in 2018. Together they moved to Arizona, bought a home in Vail and got engaged in December. On New Year’s Eve 2018, they were married in Sonoita, surrounded by friends and family.
Bill is preceded in death by his Father Woodrow Bryan Carbaugh (1983) and Mother Madelyn Carbaugh (2011). He is survived by his wife Michele Carbaugh, son William Bryan Carbaugh II (Kristin Carbaugh). Bill had three grandchildren Woody (Josie), Maxwell and Madelyn. In 2018 he became a great grandfather to Nicole Marie. Bill has a sister Patty Moss (Al Moss), three nephews (Scott, Todd, Casey) and six great nieces and nephews (Alyssa, Dakota, Kealy, Alexa, Piper, Bode). In Arizona, Bill leaves behind a sister in law, Marilyn Wilson (John Wilson) and a Niece, Brandi Lipich (Daniel).
Bill will be missed greatly by his family and many, many friends. A small memorial service is scheduled for February 19, at 7:30 pm at East Lawn Palms Mortuary, 5801 E Grant Rd., Tucson, AZ …
