Raul Martinez, age 82, passed into the arms of his Savior on Saturday January 14th, 2023, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Tucson, AZ. Raul was born in Imuris, Sonora, Mexico on September 14th, 1940. Raul spent his early years proudly serving in the Army National Guard and spent many years as a volunteer firefighter and a short time as a paramedic for the City of South Tucson. Raul supported his family by working as an auto-body man for many years, but those who knew Raul will say he was a jack of all trades and a master of many. He spent many years building and fixing houses, electrician work, worked in the mine as a painter and played in a music group at his church. Raul loved to give where he could and support those in need, including opening his home to immigrants and others needing a place to stay while getting the medical or financial help they needed. To say he was an avid supporter of the Catholic Church would be an understatement. Raul loved spending time going to church and offering his services to fix and improve his church’s building structure and landscaping. Raul was often heard quoting his favorite bible psalm, “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”.
Raul is survived by his daughters, Jenny (Eddie) Chavez, Elizabeth (Heriberto) Federico, Cristina (Richie✝) Martinez-Ortiz, Stephanie (Noe) Talamante; his son Ruben Martinez; his grandchildren, Estevan (Angelica Torres) Federico, Valerie (Marlene) Federico, Lorenzo (Ayleen) Chavez, Raul (Gina) Chavez, Carlos Chavez, Emilio (Caitlin Thibaudeau) Ortiz, Eliana Ortiz, Ollie Friend, Sophia Friend, Noeli Talamante; 10 great- grandchildren; and 5 siblings. Raul was preceded in death by his parents and 3 siblings.
Raul will be truly missed by family and all those who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him.
