Miguel Ortiz Cañez,( Lingo) Jr., of age 85 passed away on April 10, 2022 in Tucson, AZ. Miguel was born on August 16, 1936 in Tucson, AZ. To Miguel P. Canez, Sr. and Angelita O. Canez. Miguel was married to Celia L Cañez for 63 years. He is survived by daughters Patsy (Oscar) Moreno, Margie (Mike Garcia) Cañez, Michele (Rick) Gutierrez, sons Miguel M. (Lisa) Cañez, III, Juan (Holly Smith) Cañez; grandchildren Venessa (Johnny) McAdams, Theresa (Chris) Barraza, Jessica (Daniel Rodriguez) Pesqueira, Clarissa (Jesus) Martinez, Louis Pesqueira, IV, Samantha (Jairo) Barcelo, Miguel P. (Idania Romoleroux) Cañez, IV, Bryana Cañez, Alyssa Cañez and Ashley Cañez; great-grandchildren Christopher Barraza, Jr., Alyanna Barraza, Serina Torres, Victoria McAdams, Adrian Torres, Ayden Martinez, Ramon Barcelo, Sebastian McAdams, James Cruz, Aubriella Barraza, Jairo Barcelo, Jr., Logan Martinez, Emma Cruz, Alin Barcelo, Aaron Rodriguez; siblings Tony Cañez and Angelita (Benny) Sanchez.

Miguel is Preceded in death by daughter, Sally I. Torres, grandson Silverio J. Torres, Jr., Parents Miguel P Cañez and Angelita O. Cañez, in-laws Alejandro and Consuelo Leon, sister Mary C. Nogales, brother Frank Cañez, Sr., brothers-in-law Fernando Leon, Sr. and Frank Nogales, Sr., sister-in-law Terry Cañez; nephews Frank Nogales, Jr., and Pete Nogales, Sr.

Miguel attended Manzo and Davis Elementary, Roskruge and John Spring Junior High and Tucson High School. At a very early age, Miguel worked, to help his parents, picking cotton and worked with his father delivery bricks. At the age of seventeen, he convinced his parents to let him join the United States Air Force. After the Air Force, he joined the Air National Guard then went onto to join the U. S. Navy as a Seabees Reservist in which he retired after 31 years. Miguel worked at Tucson Unified School District for 25 years and retired as the AC Maintenance Engineer. He went onto to work at AAFES at Davis Monthan Air Force Base in which retired after 15 years. While providing for his wife and children, he attended Pima Community College at night and received his associates in mechanical and construction. Miguel was blessed with a large and loving family who brought him so much joy and happiness. Miguel was a member of the El Rio Men’s Golf Club where he enjoyed playing golf and competing in tournaments. Later in years, he enjoyed playing golf with his sons and sons-in-law. After completing retiring, he spent hours on end completing many books of Seek-n-Find puzzles, watching war movies on the history channel and watching the Mexican novelas. His pastime was drinking beers with his cousins and friends especially when he went hunting. His passion was the military and up until his last days, he encouraged any young person to enlist.
