Surrounded by those who loved her, our beloved Mother, GrandMother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, and Friend, Marianne Katherine Mullen, 79 moved on from this world to be with the Heavenly Father, and loved ones passed on Wednesday, August 03, 2022 at 3:53 pm.
Born in March of 1943 to 2nd Generation German immigrants, Henry and Matilda Arndt of East Farmington Wi. Marianne was a vigorous and vibrant child of God whose faith ran deep. She was born and raised in Osceola Wi, and remained in contact with many of her family and friends throughout the years and she was often referred to as Mary. This included writing to her Penpal of 72 years, when they were connected through school in first grade and would write back and forth up until the time of her passing. Marianne graduated from Osceola Area High School in 1961 and then moved to begin her professional career in nursing starting with her Graduation from Gustavus Adolphus Nursing School, St. Peter, MN in 1965. Marianne was a Registered Nurse who started her nursing career at Bethesda Hospital in 1965 and was among the first class of nurses to take Cardiac Care Classes in the St. Paul, Mn area. The family then moved to Detroit Lakes in 1973 where she worked at St. Mary’s in Cardiac Care. Upon moving to Hudson Wi, in 1978 Marianne worked at Hudson Memorial Hospital in Cardiac Care, Obstetrics and Hospital Supervisor. She was certified as an ASPO educator in 1988, and earned a Fellow with American College of Childbirth Educators in 1991. She then moved to Tucson, Az in 1993 and worked in Certification, Utilization Review, and Certified Case Manager in 1998 for insurance companies in Az. She was then able to work out of her home as a Care Coordinator and advocate for Alpha Net of Florida 2008-2013. Marianne retired in 2013 to follow her heart's desire to be with family, grandchildren and to work on her hobbies that included genealogy, quilting, needlework and gardening. She was an avid gardener who produced much of the vegetables for her family. In later years her gardening was dedicated mostly to her backyard gardens of wildflowers, roses, succulents and cacti from her Tucson home. She was a resourceful woman knitting and making blankets, quilts and clothing for her children and grandchildren. From the time she was little, Marianne loved nature, wildflowers and animals. She was a caregiver who’s love for her children, grandchildren, friends, family, and pets was unyielding. She loved family genealogy, opera, and classical music. The Patron Saint Francis of Assisi was an inspiration to Marianne and of her caring of animal pets. She dedicated as a testament to his practices her backyard garden as former pets are laid to rest there under the peaceful Sonoran landscape of trees and a water bird bath. Marianne was a courageous woman who had diligently battled her Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (A1AD) lung disease for over 40 years. Marianne was an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Tucson, Az. She passed away suddenly from complications after a necessary surgical procedure in conjunction with her A1AD that took its toll on her respiratory system and ultimately led to her passing away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tucson AZ. Marianne is Survived by her Children: Mark, Madison and Cindy (Debra); Natural Grandchildren: Frank, Caroline, and Benjamin; Grandchildren Adopted and/or through Marriage: Ginny, Lea, and Caleb; Great Grandchildren: Tim, Sam, and Alyssa; Brothers: Henry and Paul; as well as many loved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, her beloved pet dog Dottie, and her parakeets Jerry and George.
