Lorece had a long and full life. She was born on August 2, 1932, in Rayville, Louisiana, to two loving parents, Verdell and Rosie Lee (Marzett) Kindrick. Lorece had three younger sisters, Willie, Jessie, and Doris. Even at a young age, Lorece was a family person. She was either under her mother cooking in the kitchen or in the fields on the tractor, or riding horses with her daddy. When Lorece was not in school or in the field, she loved being in church most of all. Lorece gave her life to Christ and was baptized at the young age of 14. After graduating from Alto High School in Rayville, Lorece left her small town in Louisiana for the excitement of Kansas City. It was while living and working in Kansas City that Lorece’s former schoolmate from Rayville, Charles (Chuck) Hunter asked her to marry him and start a life together in Tucson, Arizona. Lorece and Chuck married in Rayville, Louisiana on October 21, 1953. They raised four children together and were happily married for 61 years, until Chuck’s passing in 2014.
Lorece was passionate about anything she was involved in. She was the president of her church’s Women’s Ministry, as well as a Deaconess for over 30 years. Another one of Lorece’s passions was bowling in the Tucson Women’s League, where she was known as an exceptional bowler. She also enjoyed making pottery for many years. Lorece was full of life and had a wonderful sense of humor and sense of style. Above all, Lorece was a beloved grandmother, mother, and wife.
Lorece passed away peacefully at the age of 89 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her four children: Varie Hunter of Tucson; Vernon Hunter and his wife, Bonnie, of Stanwood, WA; Cathrine Hunter-Childress of Tucson, and Karon Hunter-Matthews of Chicago, IL. She is also survived by her three sisters: Willie Rhodes of Dallas, TX; Jessie Moss of Dallas, TX, and Doris Kindrick of Rayville, LA. Lorece leaves behind fourteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, as well as host of nieces and nephews. Though she is no longer with us, memories of her great faith in Jesus Christ, her love for life and the joy of her spirit shall always remain with us.
