Khin Kyi Aung (Gladys) passed away on June 15, 2022 in Tucson, AZ after a short illness. Khin was born in Mawlamyine, Burma in 1936. She emigrated to the United States with her husband, Saw Aung and her two daughters in 1968. They landed in Los Angeles, CA. In L.A., Khin became a familiar face at the L.A. County Public Library in Culver City, where she worked until they moved to Tucson, AZ in 1980. In 1982, Khin lost her husband to a sudden heart attack. Khin worked for the City of Tucson, mainly in the Parks and Recreation department. It was during her work there that she was blessed to have found love again when she met and later married Dan Cisneros. They were married until his death in 2009. In her retirement years, Khin was a proud volunteer at St. Joseph’s hospital, worked at The University of Az Medical Center as a translator helping Burmese refugees seeking medical care, and served as an active member of the Bel Air Ranch Estates HOA.
Khin truly lived life to the fullest, never sitting still for too long. She loved golfing, going to the casino, spending time in New Mexico, listening to live music, visiting friends and family, and donating to various charities. A fan of camouflage, tye-dye and polka dots, you could always pick her out in a crowd. She never met a person she did not like. She had an uncanny ability to make friends by sharing a piece of chocolate, which she gave out freely to everyone she met.
Khin is survived by her two daughters, Barbara (husband Chuck), Blossom and her grandchildren Andrew, Christopher, and Alexa (her greatest treasures called her Pwa Pwa).
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of her life at the Chapel at St. Joseph’s Hospital, 350 North Wilmot Rd, Tucson, AZ. 85711 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2022, to reminisce, grieve, support each other, and of course, share a piece of chocolate.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Khin’s name to your favorite charity.
