John F. Duke

John F. Duke 34, was born in Casper, WY on January 27,1981 and passed away in Tucson, AZ on August 7, 2015 from cancer. It was a short, but courageous and honorable battle. He is survived by his soulmate, Christy, mother Nancy Tuinstra-Farrar, step-father Mick Farrar, brother Mike Duke, nephew Mason Duke, uncle Michael Tuinstra (Sarah), aunt Carolyn Tuinstra-McKenzie (Wayne), aunt Mary Boger, and cousins Amy Tuinstra, Meredith Murray, Nicole Duke, Carrie Cole, and Erin Meissner. He was predeceased by his father, Paul Duke, grandparents Charles and Grace Tuinstra and John and Evelyn Duke. John graduated with honors from Natrona County High School in Casper, 1999. He attended Casper College and graduated Phi Theta Kappa with an associates degree in Drafting and Design, 2003. John worked at Pima County Facilities Management Division since 2006, with his last position held as Capital Improvement Projects Program Manager. John was a big music lover, particularly New Orleans Jazz/Funk. Beginning in grade school through college, John was a trumpet player, a member of both jazz band and marching band. He won several awards for his accomplishments in music. John’s musical talent enabled him to travel to several notable jazz festivals, and even marching in the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Dublin, Ireland and the Tournament of Roses Parade. John was an avid target shooter and in the past few years had been actively involved in a league team of wonderful guys who shot Trap and Skeet. Those nights were always his favorites, along with his weekends with his uncle out at the range. John and Christy shared a love most people never get to experience and even though it was far too short of a time, the memories and the love will never fade. John’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday August 15, 2015 at Cortaro Vista Community Church 8600 N. Camino de Oeste, Tucson AZ 85742 at 11:00 am.
