We gather here today to celebrate the life of a remarkable young man, our beloved Joel, or as many of us knew him, JJ. In the face of grief, let us find solace in honoring a life that touched so many hearts and left an indelible mark on those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Joel, the best little brother ever, was a beacon of love and responsibility. From the very beginning, he embraced his role as a son, a brother, Uncle Brother-in-law, and a friend with unwavering dedication. Born to Sandra and Joel Holman, he was the only son in a family of five wonderful sisters - Nicki, who passed four months ago, Sandra, Leighla, Denise, and Rachel. JJ's presence added a special dimension to the Holman family, bringing joy, laughter, and an abundance of love. He was His sister’s little big brother. As many know Joel was #5 in birth order and as we grew older we began to use our birth order as a way to identify us, Nicki #1, Sandra #2, Leighla #3 , Denise #4 and lastly Rachel #6. We often used our number when texting each other on our family chat or phone call. JJ often ended the call with saying koo Koo Lates.
Joel was also a loving and humble partner to Carmelina and her two children, Peter and Izabella Ruelas Duran. His ability to seamlessly blend love, responsibility, and commitment into his role as a partner and stepfather was a testament to the depth of his character.
Joel's journey through life was one characterized by responsibility and commitment. He understood the importance of accountability and carried it with him throughout his endeavors. From his early days at Sunnyside High School, where he undoubtedly left an impact on the life of others, to his time working in various fields, Joel's dedication was evident.
After high school, Joel took the path of higher education, attending college with a thirst for knowledge and a passion for personal growth. His pursuit of education not only enriched his own life but inspired those around him to strive for excellence.
Joel's professional journey was diverse, mirroring his ability to adapt and succeed in different environments. From his time at Southwest Gas, where he undoubtedly displayed his work ethic and dedication, to his role in corrections, and even at the bowling pro shop, Joel left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike. His willingness to take on challenges head-on and his commitment to hard work were truly commendable.
One of Joel's many talents were his remarkable ability to multitask. Not only did he thrive in various professional environments, but he also poured his heart and soul into renovating his home – a space that became his pride and joy. The meticulous attention to detail, the creativity he brought to each project, and the satisfaction he found in creating a beautiful and welcoming space reflected Joel's passion for making the most of every moment.
Joel's dedication and accomplishments in bowling were further recognized with his induction into the Bowling Hall of Fame, winning City and State Titles, a distinction that speaks volumes about his skill, sportsmanship, and contribution to the bowling world. He wasn't just a bowler; he was a legend on the lanes, inspiring fellow enthusiasts with his prowess and leaving an enduring legacy in the annals of the sport he held so dear.
Bowling wasn't just a pastime for Joel; it was his life. He approached the lanes with dedication and skill, leaving an indelible mark on the bowling community. Joel's prowess was evident in the remarkable achievement of scoring over 32 perfect 300 games – with some night back-to-back 300 games this is a testament to his unparalleled talent and love for the sport.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Joel was a loving soul. His warmth and kindness resonated with everyone he met. His ability to connect with people, to offer a helping hand, and to share in both joys and sorrows made him a cherished friend and family member.
Joel's life was not only enriched by human connections but also by the furry and feathery friends who found a special place in his heart. Scooter, his parrot, added color and cheerful hellos to his home, while his dogs Piglet and Patches became cherished companions. Joel's love for animals wasn't just a duty; it was a genuine bond that reflected his nurturing and compassionate spirit. In celebrating Joel's life, let us also honor the lasting connections he made, not only with people but with the beloved creatures who made his home complete.
As we remember Joel, let us carry forward the lessons he leaves behind – the importance of love, responsibility, and the pursuit of one's dreams. In his honor, let us cherish the memories of the best little brother ever, a man whose impact will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In reflecting upon Joel's life, we cannot help but be struck by the poignant realization that he left us too soon. The chapters of his life, though rich and vibrant, seemed to conclude prematurely, leaving an unfinished story that continues to echo in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Joel's departure reminds us of the fragility of life, the unpredictability of our earthly journeys. In the tapestry of existence, his thread was woven into an intricate design, leaving behind a mosaic of memories that spark both joy and sorrow. The abruptness of his departure leaves us grappling with a sense of longing, a yearning for more shared moments and the unwritten chapters that were yet to unfold.
It is in the "too soon" that we find the bittersweet beauty of Joel's legacy. He left behind a trail of love, laughter, and lessons that resonate within us, encouraging us to cherish every fleeting moment and appreciate the bonds that form the fabric of our lives. The ache of his absence is a testament to the impact he made, a reminder that the measure of a life is not solely in its duration but in the depth of its connections.
As we mourn the fact that Joel's time among us was cut short, let us also celebrate the profound impact he had on our lives. In the brevity of his journey, he left behind a legacy that encourages us to live fully, love deeply, and appreciate the beauty of every passing moment. Though he left too soon, the imprint of Joel's spirit remains eternally imbedded in our hearts, guiding us to embrace life with the same passion and zest that he did.
May my brother JJ find eternal peace, and may we find comfort in the memories we shared with him.
