Jane Haynes, age 78, passed away at home in Tucson AZ, on June 13, 2018, following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Jane was born in Berwyn, IL on June 6, 1940 to the late Andrew Waddell and Florence Dieke Henderson. Jane attended Ferndale High School, Ferndale, MI. Active in Girl Scouts from age 7, Jane spent 70 years connected to her troop. In May 1962, Jane graduated from Hillsdale College (MI) as salutatorian of her class and president of her Pi Beta Phi sorority chapter. While at Hillsdale, Jane met the late John Haynes, a marriage which celebrated 45 years together.
After moving to Ohio and Texas, the Haynes settled to raise their family in Appleton, WI. Jane finished her Master's degree in counseling at the UW Oshkosh and returned to work for 29 years in the Kaukauna Area School District where she made many dear friends and impacted many students. Jane was passionate about family, church, travel, and many craft and cooking skills that lasted a lifetime.
Survivors include: daughter, Susanne Bruce and her husband, James, Appleton, WI; son, Andrew Haynes, St. Paul, MN; granddaughters, Sarah Bruce, Dublin, Ireland, and Emily Bruce, Chicago, IL.; sisters, Susan Sanders, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada and Andrea Henderson, Tucson AZ; sisters-in-law Beverly Price and her husband Bud Price, Owosso, MI, and Sherry Haynes, Traverse City, MI; brother-in-law Charles Haynes and his wife Marjean; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and faithful dog, Libby.
Private internment will be held in Tucson, AZ followed by a memorial service at the First Congregational Church, UCC, Appleton, WI on Saturday, August 4, 2018. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona, the Homeless Connections Fox Valley (Appleton), or a charity of your choice.
