Emmett was born on February 26, 1922 in New Philadelphia, Ohio. He grew up on the family dairy farm. After graduating from high school, Emmett went on to serve our country in the Navy. He was a World War II veteran.
On June 15, 1947 Emmett married Helen Kneppelt in Dover, Ohio. They went on to have three children, Raymond, David, and Tiona.
In 1982, Emmett retired from Gradall as a machine shop supervisor. He then moved to Tucson, Arizona, built a house there and focused on his music. He mastered the fiddle, banjo, and mandolin, and played pretty much any other stringed instrument. In retirement, Emmett belonged to the Arizona Banjo Blasters and the Old Time Fiddlers, playing music at many events and venues. He also belonged to his church band at God’s Country Church in Tucson.
Waiting for Emmett at the Door to Heaven was his wife, Helen (Kneppelt) Gundy and his brother, Cletus Gundy.
He is survived by his children Raymond Dale Gundy (spouse Lisa), David James Gundy (spouse Beth), and Tiona Ruth Gundy, his grandchildren Rebekah Gundy, Kevin Gundy (spouse Lindy), Benjamin Gundy (spouse Shauna), Aaron Gundy, Kelly Taylor (spouse Jordan) and seven great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Emmett will be held Monday, May 20, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at East Lawn Palms Mortuary, 5801 East Grant Road, Tucson, AZ 85712. A funeral service will occur Monday, May 20, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 5801 East Grant Road, Tucson, AZ 85712. A graveside service will occur Monday, May 20, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at East Lawn Palms Mortuary & Cemetery, 5801 E Grant Rd, Tucson, AZ 85712.
