The first child of Norwood Joseph and Mary Ella (Watson) Morris, Elizabeth Jane was born at St. John’s Hospital in Leavenworth Kansas on July 1, 1939. She was named after both of her grandmothers, Elizabeth June Watson and Helen Jane Morris. As a child she spent her life growing up in a military family, living in Massachusetts, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Tucson Arizona, where she caught the eye of George William Lawton, a young dashing military policeman who had pulled her over for speeding while working the main gate at Davis-Monthan AFB in 1955. They were married on September 17th, 1957. Married, George and Elizabeth began their young lives together having their first child, Mark Joseph on July 24th, 1958 and their second son, Kelly James on April 10th, 1965. As a military family Elizabeth and her family have traveled the world being stationed in Prune Germany, Amarillo Texas, Cheyanne Wyoming, Adana Turkey, Long Beach California, back to Tucson Arizona, then back to Germany (Hessisch Oldendorf), then settling and retiring in Tucson in the latter 1970’s.
She was the heart and soul of our family, the rock for us. Always deeply passionate, caring, and providing guidance and encouragement, standing at our sides through the thick and thin phases of our lives, and the real gift she bestowed upon us and those who knew her was unconditional love. She was a dedicated spiritual woman who had great faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, living her life believing in positivity and that all good things come through God the Father Almighty.
She was a “true” friend to all that knew her. She enjoyed all “the wonders” that life had to offer. She “cherished” her loving Bichon Frise, Max, and adventures to the beach, flowers, a good glass of merlot and most all spending quality memorable times with her family and friends.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband; George William Lawton; her son Mark Joseph, granddaughters Kailand and Madison; her son Kelly James; daughter in law Keli Ann, granddaughter Kamryn; her brother; Norwood Joseph (Jody) Morris II, sister in law Paula, niece Chelsea, great niece Jaylyn, great nephew Angelo, and nephew Jeb. She has three surviving great grandchildren: Jadyn, Jordin, and Kainan, and two God daughters, Hollie and Megan. She is predeceased by her father Norwood Joseph Morris; mother Mary Ella Morris; Aunt Jackie and Uncle Alex Garcia.
Elizabeth was the guiding light and the foundation of the family. She was loved by many and will be missed tremendously by her friends, family, and all who knew her.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on July 11, 2015 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1800 N. Camino Pio Decimo, Tucson, AZ 85715. Father Harry Ledwith will officiate.
