Tony was born in Fierro New Mexico and spent part of his childhood in Silver City, New Mexico, before his family moved to Tucson, Arizona. He spent his formative years growing up in South Tucson and graduated from Pueblo High School.
Along with his brothers, Tony was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965. He served with the 1st Bn. 47th Inf. 171st Inf. Brigade, (Mechanized) as a Medic (91B). The 171st Infantry Brigade was assigned to Fort Wainwright AK, near Fairbanks, its primary mission was to defend Eielson AFB during the Vietnam War and Cold War Era. He received medals for his service, obtained the rank of Specialist Four (E-4), was an expert marksman, and was honorably discharged.
Upon his return to Tucson in 1968, he met the love of his life, Socorro Lopez. They moved to Winkleman, Arizona, and on September 18th, 1969, they got married and started a family. Tony worked in the mining industry at the Asarco Hayden Smelter. A few years later, they settled in the Tucson area and Tony went to work at the Asarco/Anamax Open Pit Mission Mine, near Sahuarita, Arizona. After several years, Tony landed a new job at the City of Tucson and worked for the Streets Department on an asphalt road crew. He eventually retired from the City of Tucson after decades of service. Tony was a proud blue-collar Union worker. Like his father and siblings, he made up the labor and workforce that helped build our great State.
He spent his retirement years with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends in his hometown of Tucson, Arizona, (the Southside mostly). He was an Oakland Raiders fan, enjoyed a good boxing match, and loved reading the newspaper. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
