Michael Don Hollis was born to Melvin Campbell and Velma Jean Hollis on February 13, 1955 in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
Michael moved to Bakersfield, California at an early age where he attended the Church of God in Christ with his grandmother Ophelia Hollis. He went to grade school through community college in Bakersfield. Michael worked as an electrician in California and various other states. In addition, he received a diving certification in San Diego, California.
Michael moved with his family to Atlanta in 1991. There he received a Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He continued working for the International Brotherhood for Electrical Workers until his health failed in 2022.
Michael greatly enjoyed deep sea fishing with friends, jazz, chess, mathematics, and most of all, he loved family. He often envisioned ways to make the world a better place. He had a resilient spirit that was always willing to rise to the occasion for those he loved. Michael never met a stranger. Many found comfort in his profound words and intellect. He will be remembered as one full of warm laughter, wise words and deep compassion. He would often say, “I’m a tough old bird” and that he was.
He leaves to mourn four children, Nicole, Sean, Michael, and Tanisha Hollis. A Step-Daughter Kelley DuBone. Grandchildren Maverick and Brielle Bruce and Tommy DuBone III. In addition, four brothers Ricky and Terry Hollis, Marcus Sherrill, Melvin Campbell and a host of beloved relatives and friends.
A visitation for Michael will be held Friday, June 23, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Floral Hills Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 3150 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084. A funeral service will occur Saturday, June 24, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Floral Hills Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
