Michael John "Skip" Costa was born on December 3, 1922 to Michael John and Eleonora Costa in Athens, Georgia. He was the youngest of three siblings, Larry, Margaret and Zena Costa. He attended Athens public grammar schools, Athens High School, and one year at Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1947. During this time he enrolled in the civilian pilot's program and learned to pilot a plane. He loved flying and had many amazing stories to tell about his experiences in the air.
Skip served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946 in the 140th Infantry Regiment based in Texas and Alabama. He was in foreign service duty at Okinawa from 1945-1946 and was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of First Lieutenant.
He married Ann Evelyn Eskew on February 14, 1948 and they were married sixty-five years before Ann died in June of 2013. They enjoyed traveling to over thirty five countries on six continents after his retirement.
Skip is survived by two children, Carol Marbury (Felix), Mike Costa (Glenda), grandchildren Brian Marbury, Christina Marbury, Michael J. Costa IV (Rita), Andrew Costa (Sarah), Alyse Costa, two great-grandchildren, Michael John Costa V and Eve Costa, and a brother-in-law John Eskew (Vicky), John's children and grandchildren, and first cousins Eleanor Ann Camarata, Joseph Costa, Jr., and Ralph Costa.
Mr. Costa was employed at Community Loan and Investment Corporation from 1947-1951. He worked at Carithers-Wallace-Courtenay, Inc., from 1951-1985. He became Company President from 1970-1979 and chairman of the Board of Directors from 1979 until his retirement in December of 1985.
He was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Atlanta, a member of the Peachtree-Atlanta Kiwanis Club from 1970-1987and President from 1977-1978. He enjoyed playing golf, and was a member of Lanier Golf Club, Hidden Hills Golf & Country Club, and the Georgia Senior Golfers Association. He also loved working crossword puzzles, and all sports, especially the University of Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves.

Skip passed peacefully into his eternal life on April 28, 2023. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Vincent de Paul ministries or the charity of your choice.
