Dr. James (Jim) Owen Coldiron, 91, of Tucker, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 7, 2017 surrounded by family. Jim is survived by Bonnie, his wife of almost 67 years, daughter Sandy Choate and her husband Gary, son Steve and his wife Jane, and son Dr. Tim, grandchildren Matthew and his wife Kelly, Jonathan, and Stephanie Choate, great-grandchildren Jackson and Parker, sisters Georgia Beebe and Bea Salisbury and brother Ed, sister-in-law, Barbara Bishop and several nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents Myrtle and George, son Randy, sister Tee, and brother Henry.
Jim lived a full and wonderful life. After serving in the Navy in World War II, Jim attended Middletown Business College in Middletown, Ohio and Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in preparation to become a lawyer. However, God called him to a life of ministry. He attended Georgetown College in Georgetown, Kentucky where he met the love of his life, Bonnie. After college, Jim attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, Trinity Theological Seminary in Newburg, Indiana, and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. He held B.A., M. of Div., and Ph.D. degrees.
Jim was actively consulting up until his diagnosis of cancer two months ago. He served as Crusade Director/Trainer using the Billy Graham model for many crusades around the world. He also served as both consultant for the North American Mission Board and Regional Coordinator for the East Central United States, Hawaii, Alaska, and the Mariana Islands.
Jim served as Director of Evangelism for the Michigan Baptist State Convention. He also served as a Senior Pastor in Kentucky, Ohio, Missouri, and Georgia.
Jim’s love of the Lord was preeminent in his life followed by his love of his family. He shared the gospel everywhere he went, had a number of articles and books published, and preached over 500 revivals and crusades.
Jim leaves behind an extraordinary spiritual legacy, a loving family and a wealth of friends who will miss him dearly. He accomplished so much in his 91 years.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at Floral Hills Funeral Home and Cemetery at 3150 Lawrenceville Hwy in Tucker, Georgia on Saturday, July 15th. Visitation will be from 1-3 pm followed by the service at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Promise Village Home for Children, PO Box 210, Davisburg, Mi, 48350.
