Born June 3, 1928 in Fitchburg, MA she was a first generation American and the youngest of twelve.
Helen wore many hats during her long life. She was a US Navy veteran, bookkeeper, US Postal Service mail carrier, a substitute teacher during a teacher's strike in Florida, Girl Scout and Brownie troop leader, PTA president, real estate agent and broker. In her late 60s she even got a job as a demonstrator at Publix on a dare! She was active at her Lutheran church in Tucker as a member of the Women’s groups and altar guild. Tragically her college education was cut short upon the death of both parents at the age of 20. However, Helen earned an associate’s degree in her late 40's attending DeKalb Junior College (now Perimeter College) graduating with honors.
She and Bob, her husband of 67 years, traveled the world. They loved cruising, visiting foreign lands far and wide. For many years they were snowbirds to Las Vegas spending the winters enjoying gaming at local casinos. She loved to entertain, often hosting parties during the holidays.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Bob and is survived by daughter Barbara Lary of Brooks, GA, daughter and son-in-law Marsha and Michael Lewis of Loganville, GA, daughter and son-in-law Robin and Thad Weed of Blairsville, GA, granddaughter Heather Delage of Brooks, GA, and several generations of nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating her life will be held Thursday, September 21st at Floral Hills Memory Gardens Funeral Home, Tucker, GA. Visitation 11AM and funeral service 12 noon.
