They moved to Bethesda, Maryland at the age of 6 months, then to Dallas, Texas about 1942.
He graduated from Jesuit High School, 1 year at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, then Saint Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas.
He then joined the Navy and attended Officer Candidate School. After receiving the rank of Ensign he went on to serve as a Navy Aviator.
He met and fell in love with Patricia Schweiger and they were married in 1958. They spent the first two years at Naval Air Station in Newfoundland where their son Tom was born in 1959.
After his time in the Navy Frank was hired by Procter and Gamble and spent a long and prosperous 31 year career with many moves…Dallas, Texas where Mary was born in 1960; Albuquerque, New Mexico where Cathy was born in 1964; San Antonio, Texas; Oklahoma City, Frankfurt, Germany, Washington, DC and finally Atlanta, Georgia.
Frank was ordained as a permanent Deacon in the Catholic Church in 1987. He served as Deacon at Holy Cross, St. Marguerite, and Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Frank loved to play golf, cheer for Notre Dame, but most of all he loved his wife and family.
Frank is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Dortha Coughlin and his daughter Mary Melvin. He is survived by his wife Patricia; his children Tom Coughlin and Cathy Edwards; his sons in law Tim Melvin and William Edwards; his grandchildren Tommy Melvin, Christine Melvin and Jake Edwards; and his brother Patrick Coughlin.
