Dorothy J. Buchanan, age 88, died on August 2, 2022. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dennis M. Buchanan and their daughter & son-in-law, Rick & LaNita Stout; grandchildren, Brian & Chloe Cole and Matthew & Allyson Cole and her great-grandchildren, Liam Cole & Macklyn Cole.
Mrs. Buchanan was born on April 6, 1934, in Rutherfordton, NC, to parents Henry & Ollie Mae Dimsdale. She was one of 13 children. She attended Berea College in Kentucky where she graduated with a degree in Education. She taught 4th grade for 32 years before retiring with 25 of those years spent at Briarlake Elementary in Dekalb County GA.
She married Dennis M. Buchanan on August 23, 1959. She met her husband on a train ride from Chicago, IL to Asheville, NC. They lived in Puerto Rico for the first 3 years they were married. She taught school on the military base. They moved back to Georgia once Dennis was discharged from the Navy. They had 1 child together.
Dorothy was a loving wife & mother whose family & faith meant the most to her. She was an active member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Tucker, GA.
Dorothy enjoyed traveling domestically throughout the United States and making friends in many states. She liked to read and enjoyed listening to gospel music. Her favorite thing to do was spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A visitation for Dorothy will be held Saturday, August 6, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Floral Hills Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 3150 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM and graveside service immediately following at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
