passing on June 27, 2018, at the age of 87. She spent her last moments surrounded by family
in her lifelong home where she was born and raised with her eight siblings and nine
step-siblings.
She was born in Traverse City on March 21, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Frank and
Helen (Denoyer) Ducheney. She shared her life with her beloved husband Melvin Belanger,
whom she met as a young girl, until his passing on July 7, 2003.
Margaret graduated from St. Francis High School in 1949. While raising her four children, she
continued her education at Northwestern Michigan College and graduated with her LPN in 1969.
She then worked at Arnold Engstrom Children Center as a compassionate nurse who was
adored by her patients. In 1989 she received the LPN of the year award.
Pee Wee was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Her
door was always open to anyone - or any creature - in need and was a motherly figure to all. An
incredible ice skater, she enjoyed outdoor activities such as skiing, fishing, snowmobiling,
swimming, and camping with her family. Pee Wee and Mel enjoyed spending time in Hawaii at
their condo and traveling the country in their fifth-wheel. She also loved painting, knitting, and
relaxing by her pool with her dogs. Margaret was deeply rooted in her faith and was a lifelong
member of St. Francis Catholic Church. She was devoted to her prayers and exemplified her
beliefs and values in her kindness to others.
Margaret is survived by her four children Brenda, Rick (Rattikhal), Greg, and Kirk Belanger.
Seven grandchildren Aaron and Julianna Wilson, Janell (Alexander) Alt, Morgaine (Atiliano
Osorio), Arielle, Alexandra, and Andrea Belanger. Three great grandchildren, Nellianna Wilson,
Oliver Alt, and Augustus Chell.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11 A.M. Friday July 6th, at St. Francis Catholic Church.
The family will receive friends at the church from 10 A.M. until the time of mass, and followed by
a luncheon in the fellowship hall.
Memorial contributions in Margaret’s name may be directed to the St. Francis Catholic Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Homes, Traverse City.
