Irene Elizabeth Schettek passed away, November 12th at Munson Medical Center surrounded by loved ones. Irene was born November 11th, 1928 to the late Mary and Anthony Popa. On September 4th, 1948 she was married to Alex Schettek at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Cedar, MI.
Irene was the consummate, Mom and Grandma. As her 5 granddaughters reflect on what she meant to them, there are a few things that she shared with each of them, as well as many of us that loved and knew her.
Irene loved to play games and cards with all that, Bingo was one of her favorites besides Skip-Bo and Yahtzee. She was an amazing cook and always had time to teach us all the skills she possessed, from strawberry jam to scrambled eggs, but most of all, we each remember freshly baked homemade apple pie and pineapple upside down cake.
Irene always took great care in her appearance; she enjoyed her consistent trips to beauty shop to have her hair done ever so perfectly. She always took great care in her nails and would enjoy painting each of her granddaughters as well.
For each of the greatest memory of Irene, was that she did each of these things because she had time for every person she was with, Irene never seemed to need anything. She had a desire to spend time with all, she loved all she knew and she loved them well. She did have a special love for Her Girls, all seven of them.
The comfort that we all can hang onto is lately she spent many of her moments talking with us about her looking forward to sitting at the feet of Christ and in those moments you could see a joy like none other. She did not just believe in her home in heaven, she knew that Christ had prepared a place for her right next to Him.
Above all else, Irene cherished her family. She will be missed greatly by her daughters, Janet (Skip) Brown, Nancy (Rocky) Welch, granddaughters, Sara (Andy) Bogard, Carrie Brown (Eric), Cori (Andy) Miller, Amanda Welch (JC), Angilee Welch (James), great-grandsons, Fisher, Noah and Corbin Bogard. As well as sisters-in-law, Arlene Schettek and Mary Ellen Novak, many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Alexander Schettek, parents, Mary and Anthony Popa and her sisters, Adeline and Dorothy.
