Eleanor L. Rokos, 95, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2012 at Joy Givers in Traverse City. She was born on November 19, 1917 in Beulah, MI, the daughter of William J. and Kathryn B. (Sharp) Collison.
On April 27, 1946, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Traverse City, Eleanor married Richard J. Rokos. She and her husband owned and operated a grocery store, The Rokos Food Market, on the corner of Cass and Lake Ave for 25 years.
Eleanor graduated from Benzonia High School in 1935. She attended the Lewis-Chapin School of Business in Traverse City and was employed by the John C. Morgan Canning Co. for 9 years. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and the Ecarius Variety Club. She loved all kinds of needlework and especially enjoyed fishing and bird watching.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Jean Collison of Sun Lakes, Arizona, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001, her parents, three brothers Lloyd, Harold and Elwin Collison, brothers-in-law Henry Rokos, Victor Rokos, and Bernard Kroupa, sisters- in- law Dorothy Kroupa, Bette and Frances Rokos, niece Shirley (Kroupa) Anderson, and nephew Fred Moore.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2012 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at the Immaculate Conception Church in Traverse City. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Interment will take place at Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery.
