Carol Loraine Still, age 95 of Traverse City passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019 at Cherry Hill Haven. Carol was born on July 8, 1923 in Chicago, IL, to Carl and Mildred (Lynn) Engdahl, and also met her husband Jack there.
From Chicago she lived in several Detroit suburbs, and then moved down to Sarasota Florida where she became a real estate agent. While in Florida, she went back to college in her mid 60’s at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg and she received her Bachelers Degree. She moved back to Michigan in the mid 1980’s.
Carol was involved in a variety of hobbies. Besides being active in Real Estate and on the Board of Realtors, she was a lobbyist for Special Ed, was a member of the League of Women Voters and the United Universalists of Grand Traverse County, and was an activist for Peace and Nuclear Disarmament, participating in marches on its behalf. In her earlier years, she loved to cook and entertain, and also used to knit socks for the troops overseas; “Knittin for Britain” campaign.
She is survived by her daughters; Nancy (Ray) Landfair, Susan Still and Betsey (Mick) Sterling. Also surviving is her grandson; Adam Landfair, granddaughter; Jessica Sterling, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and brothers Bill and Lynn Engdahl.
Cremation has taken place, and a service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation, or to Hospice of Michigan.
