Mae was born on June 13, 1934 the daughter of Theodore and Anna (Popa) Skeba. She was the co-valedictorian at Lake Leelanau, St. Mary’s School class of 1952. Mae married Wally Belanger on August 25, 1956 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake Leelanau. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, and was very active in the Funeral Luncheon program. She also belonged to the VFW Post 7731 Ladies Auxiliary. Mae worked at Michigan Bell in her younger years. She made the cinnamon rolls at the Blue Bird Inn. She was a very good cook and had a catering business in Leelanau County, where she catered for weddings and resort cocktail parties. Mae had a wonderful sense of humor. She was always ready to give a helping hand to neighbors and friends. Mae truly loved her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her children; Douglas Belanger, and Gail (Mike) Glowacki both of Traverse City, two grandchildren; Heather (Jonathan) LeCureux of Fort Collins, CO, and Brandon Glowacki of Traverse city. She is also survived by a sister Eva (Cletus) Plamondon of Traverse City and a brother Lawrence (Bertha) Skeba of Lake Leelanau, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mae was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wally Belanger, six brothers; Edmond, Stan, George, Jim, Joe, and Ben Skeba.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 10am at St. Francis Catholic Church. Visitation will be held on Wednesday December 22, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Covell Funeral Home, 232 E. State St., where a Rosary will be said at 7pm. Burial will take place in Oakwood Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in Mae’s name to the Carmelite Monastery, American Cancer Society or Father Fred Foundation.
