Harold Edward Wenker, Jr. (Bud), beloved husband of 39 years to Irene Sorensen Wenker, departed this world on Saturday, May 24 while working at one of his favorite hobbies, landscaping. Besides his wife, he is survived by one brother, William Anderson Wenker and his wife, Joan of the Villages in Florida, five children, Debbie Valetine and husband David of Vineland, NJ, Dorothy Gagnon and her husband Don of Stratford, CT, Keith Sorensen and his fiance Susan Pawluk of Farmington, Connecticut, Sharon Richters and husband Edward of Windsor, CT, and James F. Wenker and wife Annette of Windsor, CT; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He had a daughter Carolyn Wenker who predeceased him.
Once a farmer in PA, he was a veteran of WWII where he served his country in the Navy. He lived with his family and first wife Elizabeth O. Wenker (deceased) in Madison, CT and worked as a Quality Control Engineer at Schick of Milford. He also worked as a vocational education teacher at Eli Whitney Technical School.
Irene and Bud met and fell in love dancing and enjoying another hobby—boating. Bud was the Commodore of the Indian Neck Yacht Club of Branford. They boated often until they discovered Vermont and the lifestyle and friendships that have endured for the remainder of his life.
Bud was a volunteer of Grace Cottage Hospital both as greeter, and medical courier to Brattleboro. When not working in his garden, playing his trombone, golfing, bowling, or regaling his friends with his quick wit, Bud loved designing handcrafted wooden toys for his grandchildren. Bud was a caring and loving husband who enjoyed entertaining his many friends. He could appreciate a quiet moment sitting and reading or enjoying the beautiful wildlife that presented itself just outside his window or he could organize an elaborate birthday celebration for Irene that was acted out with gusto.
In all areas of his life he honored the code of honesty, doing what's best for others and a work ethic surpassed by no one we know of. He will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Heart Association of Vermont affiliate or the NewBrook Fire & Rescue Department PO Box 77 Newfane, VT 05345
Services will be held at the Newfane Congregational Church on Friday, May 30, at 12:30 and a reception will follow at 2:00-4:00 at the Brattleboro Country Club. Burial services will be private.
Arrangements under the direction of White Funeral Home, Townshend, VT.
