In the early morning hours of February 2, 2011 William James Rouse, Sr. quietly passed away at Torrance Memorial Hospital. He was the son of Hubert Rouse and Edith Mullen-Rouse. William (Bill) was born February 16, 1921 in Michigan. His goal was to live to be 90 years old but passed away only two weeks before his birthday. He grew up in Durand and later moved to Port Huron in Michigan where he met and married Evelyn Ann Vatter in 1939 and soon after started their family. During WWII he was drafted and served in the Navy as a SeaBee in the Pacific Theatre of War. In 1957 he moved his wife, 4 children and mother to sunny California to work for McDonell Douglas for 30 years. He loved camping in "The Winnie", square dancing, working on cars, travelling and telling jokes. Above all else he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends who will always remember him as having his handwritten joke book that he carried close to his heart. He truly enjoyed life. After retirement he and his wife traveled the world. They were members of the Boots & Bows square dance club for 50 years and lifetime member of the VFW. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Evelyn Ann Rouse, and four children; William James Rouse Jr, John Edward Rouse, Jo Ellen Hock, and Jill Ann Smith, 10 beautiful grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. We will miss you. There will be a viewing Sunday February 6th 4:00 to 8:00pm and services Monday February 7th at 10:00am held at Halverson, Stone & Myers Mortuary, 1223 Cravens Ave, Torrance CA. He always said "love ya, love ya, love ya" instead of goodbye, so Grandpa: right back at ya!
Arrangements under the direction of Halverson, Stone & Myers Mortuary, Torrance, CA.
