Sharon was born in Florence, Colorado on May 1, 1937, to Thomas and Madeline Valenzano Linn. Their family moved often, living in Salt Lake City, Gary, and Atlanta before settling in San Diego, where Sharon attended Mission Bay High School.
Sharon attended the University of California at Los Angeles, was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business. After graduation Sharon returned to San Diego where she met and married James C Toland. As an itinerant navy wife, Sharon lived and worked in San Diego, Long Beach, Newport (Rhode Island), Chicago, and Northern Virginia. She earned her master’s degree in business at Marymount in 1987. Sharon had a diverse career as a housewife, teacher, paralegal, and government contractor. In 1997 she returned to the Bay Park area of San Diego where she worked for USN SPAWAR before retiring in 2003.
Sharon had a gift for making lasting friendships, and she impacted many people’s lives across the United States over many decades. Sharon is survived by her sons Brent, James, and Keith; grandchildren Jacob, Jordan, Kylee and Michaela; and her faithful dog Penny.
Sharon’s memorial service will take place at 11 AM on November 10, at Halverson, Stone & Myers Mortuary, 1223 Cravens Ave, Torrance, California.
